Hakawi- Empowering Locals in Unprivileged Communities
Al-Oula Foundation partnered with Dar Al-Hekma University on the Hakawi Initiative, a project that involved a group of girls
and boys of Al-Oula Association families. The project seeks to develop research skills, critical thinking, creativity, and selfexpression, using different types of art such as music, photography, drawing and acting. Professional volunteers contributed to the initiative to train and develop the skills of the youth, which enriched the final art production of the young talents. The
initiative organizers commissioned Co-Designs to create a logo and publication design for the project.
We interviewed the young participants and observed the trainers. We also collected and studied the semiotics of artworks
produced by the young talents to understand the project and design a reflective brand. The book was distributed at the
exhibition, where the participants’ artworks were displayed.
